Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a Steamfitter/Industrial Mechanic FM 1 for its Steam Plant within Facilities Operations. The role focuses on maintenance and repair of the university's steam plants and distribution systems to keep buildings—hospital, academic, and state facilities—running safely and efficiently.

The Steam Plant operates 24/7/365 with multiple boilers; responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and on-call rotations.

Formación

• General maintenance knowledge or experience in steam or industrial settings.
• General computer skills.
• Familiarity with basic safety and environmental rules and procedures.
• Good interpersonal communication, role model, operational and professional excellence skills.
• High school diploma,GED, or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s license required.
• Commitment to respect, professionalism and civility with diverse populations.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain and repair MCV and MPC steam plants and distribution systems to ensure reliable operation.
• Maintain, repair boilers and mechanical equipment providing utilities for Hospital, Academic, and State buildings.
• Ensure equipment life and efficiency through standard procedures.
• Use inspection techniques to detect and correct problems early.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions and restore equipment to full function promptly.
• Work shifts including weekends, overtime, and on-call as required.
• Keep safety procedures to guard against hazards and environmental risks.
• Interface with customers to meet their needs when problems arise.
• Demonstrate competence through successful completion of maintenance tasks.
