Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Technician for its Steam Plant. The role covers maintenance and repair of EI&C systems to keep the plant running 24/7, with on-call rotations, overtime, and weather-related work requirements.

Ideal candidates have strong technical skills in controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation, plus a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• General maintenance knowledge or experience in steam or industrial settings.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and EI&C instructions.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment for steam plants and distribution systems.
• Ensure equipment reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Work shifts including weekends, overtime, and on-call rotations as required.
• Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries and hazards.
• Interface with customers to address issues and ensure service quality.
