Job summary

Ames Construction in Platte, South Dakota, is seeking a Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil projects. You will work with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure safety and quality.

Responsibilities include designing temporary works, reviewing means and methods, on-site direction, daily reports, and ensuring compliance with contract documents. Travel to various job sites is possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Solid knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and materials.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support schedules and budgets.
• Design, review, and implement temporary works with emphasis on safety.
• Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; coordinate corrective actions.
• Provide on-site direction and technical support to foremen and subcontractors.
• Monitor project progress and prepare daily reports, quantities, and documentation.
• Perform quality control inspections to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and submittals.
• Enforce safety policies and proper PPE use on site.
• Support project cost tracking and schedule updates; coordinate with stakeholders.
• Facilitate communication between field, management, owners, and inspectors.
