Job summary

Ames Construction seeks a Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil projects in Platte, South Dakota. You will collaborate with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure safe, efficient delivery.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least one year in a related role, with knowledge of construction methods, OSHA safety practices, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in civil infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays, as required to meet project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets
• Design, review, and implement temporary works and construction means and methods with a strong emphasis on safety
• Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed
• Provide on-site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors
• Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation
• Perform quality control inspections to ensure work complies with contract documents, plans, and specifications
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals
• Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of PPE on the job site
• Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with project stakeholders
• Assist with communication between the field, project management, owners, and inspectors
