Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support heavy civil highway construction projects in West Valley City, UT. You will assist with planning, coordination, and execution of activities to meet schedules and budgets, while emphasizing safety and quality.

Responsibilities include directing on-site teams, reviewing temporary works, inspecting work and materials, preparing reports, and coordinating with foremen, subcontractors, and inspectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of three years of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in civil infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets
• Design, review, and implement temporary works and construction means and methods with a strong emphasis on safety
• Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed
• Provide on-site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors
• Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation
• Perform quality control inspections to ensure work complies with contract documents, plans, and specifications
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals
• Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of PPE on the job site
• Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with project stakeholders
• Assist with communication between the field, project management, owners, and inspectors
