Ames Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil projects in South Dakota.

This on-site role collaborates with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure safety, schedule adherence, and contract compliance. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least one year of related experience, with a strong safety mindset and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a Project Engineer or similar in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in civil infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets.
• Design, review, and implement temporary works and construction means and methods with a strong emphasis on safety.
• Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
• Provide on-site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
• Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation.
• Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of PPE on the job site.
• Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with project stakeholders.
