Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a casual phlebotomist for a client-site role in Joliet, Illinois. The position requires venipuncture skills, strong customer service, and the ability to work a fixed Wednesday 10am–2pm shift.

You will enter orders, handle specimen processing, and support lab operations while maintaining patient‑centered care and teamwork. Ideal candidates hold a phlebotomy credential (or CMA) and have prior lab/EMR experience; a high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification or CMA, or 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and lab specimen collections per age-related standards.
• Demonstrates AIDET model and prioritizes patient safety.
• Receives physician orders and enters orders in lab systems.
• Communicates with patients and provides post-phlebotomy care.
• Processes specimens including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting and packaging.
• Monitors equipment and reports issues to supervisor.
• Maintains safe work environment and biohazard procedures.
• Performs clerical duties and manages supply inventory.
• Uses resources efficiently and supports cost reduction.
• Completes competency assessments and demonstrates teamwork.
• Applies critical thinking to resolve situations.
• Follows organizational policies; performs other duties as assigned.
