The position is fully on-site in Middlesex County, NJ, with responsibility for audits, reports, and coordinating with HR and Finance on month-end Close. Thorough knowledge of state wage laws and garnishments is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle payroll experience.
• Significant multi-state payroll experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now.
• Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll.
• Experience with union/public works payroll preferred.
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax and wage requirements.
• Experience with garnishments, child support, and court-ordered withholding.
• Strong Excel skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations, audits, reporting, and year-end processes.
• Ability to independently manage deadlines and confidential information.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end payroll process from timesheet review through payroll submission and GL reconciliation.
• Process and audit multi-state payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
• Review timesheets, resolve missing or inaccurate time, and process payroll corrections.
• Audit payroll for accuracy prior to processing and final submission.
• Manage deductions, benefits, 401(k) contributions, garnishments, and other payroll-related items.
• Balance, reconcile, and submit payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Manage multi-state payroll and tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Ensure accurate application of state-specific wage, overtime, tax, and payroll regulations.
• Manage prevailing wage and union payroll requirements, including job classifications, wage rates, and fringe benefits.
• Prepare and submit certified payroll and WH-347 reports.
• Support NJ public works, NJEDA, HUB, and other required reporting.
• Prepare payroll reports and documentation for union funds, government agencies, and external audits.
• Stay current on changes to prevailing wage, payroll, and employment regulations.
• Manage payroll tax jurisdiction setup, filings, and compliance across multiple states.
• Process and resolve garnishments, child support orders, and court-ordered withholding.
• Complete employment, income, unemployment, disability, union dues, and other required reporting.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee payroll issues.
• Provide payroll reporting and analysis to Finance, Operations, Safety, and senior leadership.
• Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
• Reconcile payroll, deductions, funding, benefits, and the payroll general ledger.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Partner with Finance on month-end close and payroll reporting.
• Support payroll audits and provide documentation as needed.
• Partner with HR on employee onboarding and payroll setup.
• Ensure accurate ADP setup for new hires, including tax withholding, direct deposit, benefits, and other payroll information.
• Serve as a primary resource for employees and managers with payroll questions.
• Provide day-to-day support related to ADP Workforce Now and payroll processes.
