Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Financial Advocate to join the Southeast Eligibility team in Albemarle, NC. This full-time on-site role focuses on estimating patient financial responsibility and guiding patients through insurance and charity options before care is provided.

You will discuss deductibles, coinsurance, and copays, request upfront payments, and assist uninsured patients in qualifying for coverage programs while ensuring HIPAA compliance and regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

• Typically requires 2 years of experience in Patient Access, health care, insurance industry, or in a customer service setting.
• High School Graduate, or GED or HSED.
• No licensure required.

Responsibilities

• Calculates and provides patients with personalized estimates of financial responsibility based on insurance prior to service.
• Explains deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments and how they affect out-of-pocket costs.
• Requests upfront payment toward self-pay amounts and arranges payment plans.
• Interviews uninsured patients to assess qualifying financial needs and coordinates with programs.
• Initiates credit scoring for Medicaid and charity care eligibility.
• Works with state social workers and external vendors to maximize funding sources.
• Educates on Financial Assistance Policy and related policies; coordinates scheduling to secure funding.
• Stays informed on government funding regulations, HIPAA compliance, and EMTALA.
