Job summary

St. Matthew Catholic Parish & School in San Mateo, CA is seeking a part-time Human Resources & Payroll Assistant to support biweekly payroll, onboarding, benefits, and HR records for both Parish and School. You will work with our HR consultant and maintain confidential HR files.

You will assist with recruiting, payroll changes, and HR inquiries, helping ensure compliant and timely processes in a mission-driven community.

Qualifications

• Administrative, office or customer service experience preferred; HR or payroll experience is a plus but not required.
• College coursework in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to learn and follow multi-step administrative processes.
• Good judgment and willingness to ask questions or escalate issues when appropriate.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Support biweekly payroll and timekeeping administration, including reviewing timecards and corrections.
• Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including paperwork, HRIS setup, background checks, and compliance documentation.
• Maintain accurate employee information and confidential personnel records in Paylocity and HR files.
• Assist with benefits administration, including enrollment materials and communications.
• Provide administrative support for employee leaves and workers' compensation matters.
• Maintain HR compliance records and trackers for required certifications and trainings.
• Provide administrative support for recruiting, including postings and scheduling.
• Serve as first point of contact for routine payroll, timekeeping, benefits, and HR questions.
