Job summary

NJ Retina, a part of Prism Vision Group, seeks an onsite Ophthalmic Assistant at our Morristown, NJ location. The role involves performing tests and measurements to aid diagnosis, documenting per standards, and delivering excellent patient service.

The candidate should have 0–2 years of ophthalmic experience (2+ preferred), HS diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree preferred), and strong accuracy, communication, and patient-care skills. Occasional travel to other offices may occur.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or GED. Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline preferred.
• OA1 Experience: 0-2 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience OAII Experience: 2+ years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and records visual acuity.
• Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history (e.g., OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry).
• Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp exam with tonometry and anterior chamber assessment, basic muscle balance testing, pupil assessment, visual fields, and gross external exam.
• Performs advanced ophthalmic procedures.
• Acts as scribe during exams, entering data into EMR or paper charts.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Ensures office procedures, consent, and patient education are addressed.
• Oversees patient flow and maintains exam room cleanliness.
• Complies with practice procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintains a positive, cooperative, professional attitude.
