Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Chicago, IL is seeking an Operating Engineer to maintain and operate the Medical Center's utilities, including power, heating, cooling, ventilation, and medical gas systems. This is a 100% onsite role based in the greater Chicagoland area.

You will work from blueprints, operate BAS (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Andover), perform mechanical repairs, and coordinate with project teams on capital projects. A strong safety record and UNION apprenticeship credentials are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of recognized trade apprenticeship or power plant training.
• Current stationary engineers license (City of Chicago or equivalent).
• 5–7 years in power plant or facility operations with EPA refrigerant license.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair utilities providing power, HVAC, and medical gas.
• Monitor and adjust building controls; may use BAS (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Andover).
• Perform repairs on steam, valves, pumps, burners, and related components.
• Assist in start-up, commissioning, and capital improvement projects.
• Maintain safe work environment and complete required paperwork.
