Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking an Operating Engineer for the Hyde Park Center to oversee the operation, maintenance and repair of all building systems. This 100% onsite role requires proximity to greater Chicagoland and a focus on power, heating, cooling, ventilation and lab support equipment.

Responsibilities include operating BAS, maintaining steam and HVAC networks, and coordinating with contractors on capital projects.

Qualifications

Must have and maintain a current City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License.
EPA Refrigerant License required.
Completion of a recognized trade union apprenticeship program (e.g., IUOE-399) or equivalent training.
5–7 years of experience in power plant, facility operations, building maintenance or building automation/controls.
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate effectively in writing.
Knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipment; able to use hand and power tools; climb ladders/scaffolds.

Responsibilities

Operate, maintain and repair machinery and equipment supplying power, heating, cooling, ventilation, medical/laboratory air, vacuum, steam and water.
Adjust controls of building systems and operate BAS (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Andover).
Maintain steam distribution and high pressure vessels (up to 180 psi).
Participate in system start-up, commissioning, and capital projects; coordinate with project managers and contractors.
Maintain pneumatic tube systems and electrical components; replace switches and motors up to 110 volts.
Work from blueprints, perform on-site repairs, and manage materials and safety on site.
