Job summary

Oracle is seeking a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design and evolution of foundational distributed systems for OCI. You will build scalable, elastic, and fault-tolerant services for high-volume data operations and set the technical direction for reliability, security, and operational readiness.

The role is based in Nashville and may include relocation support. You will mentor engineers and drive automation and IaC to enable safe patching, updates, and change-management

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software-engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, C#, or Go.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, OS, networking, and secure coding practices.
• Experience with system-level test automation, performance testing, reliability engineering, and incident response.
• Experience leading or influencing technical architecture and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and evolution of core distributed systems and data-plane services at hyperscale.
• Define scalability, elasticity, durability, and availability requirements for components.
• Optimize high-throughput data paths for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing.
• Design fault-tolerant systems with in-service updates, redundancy, and recovery-oriented design.
• Apply distributed-systems tradeoffs for partitions, including rate limiting and timeouts.
• Establish SLIs/SLOs, telemetry, dashboards, and proactive alerting for critical systems.
• Lead testing, load, fault-injection, and brownout experiments for resilience.
• Guide incident diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and mentor engineers in ops excellence.
• Build and improve Infrastructure as Code and automation for safe patching and rollbacks.
• Apply security controls for multi-tenant cloud infrastructure and compliance readiness.
