Job summary

ascendingdc is seeking a Mortgage Payment Specialist for a 3-month onsite contract in Richmond, VA. You will support accurate processing of mortgage payments within a residential loan portfolio and handle cashing activities, deposits, and ACH changes.

Ideal candidates will have 3–5 years of related experience, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently within established procedures.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of cashiering or payment processing experience.
• Experience handling incoming payments and preparing deposits.
• Ability to perform routine analytical reviews and identify errors.
• Proven ability to work independently and follow established protocols.
• Strong customer service skills with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Process mortgage payments accurately and timely, applying funds to accounts.
• Handle lockbox rejects and prepare daily deposits.
• Assist with ACH authorizations and changes on payments.
• Support basic account corrections and transaction reviews.
• Perform routine information gathering and preliminary corrections.
• Provide professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Follow policies and procedures, using sound judgment in daily operations.
• Coordinate with multiple departments and follow up with third parties.
