Job summary

The AFX Group is seeking a Benefits Advisor for a full-time onsite role at JBSA Fort Sam Houston, TX. The advisor will conduct workshops and one-on-one engagements with separating and retiring military personnel and spouses, guiding them on VA benefits and related resources.

Requires experience in training or counseling, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel up to 50% to other bases. Background check is required; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• 3 years equivalent work/military experience in Training, Education, Career Counseling, or HR; bachelor’s degree may substitute.
• Prefer experience delivering workshops to military audiences.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Must be keen observer of behavior and interpreter of non-verbal language; excellent listening skills.
• Interactive, dynamic training style to engage military audience.
• Ability to adapt teaching style to participants.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-hour and one-day briefings on VA benefits and related resources.
• Set up briefing rooms and prepare materials and equipment.
• Conduct individualized discussions to explain benefits and assist with questions and applications.
• Refer service members to contacts and help connect to services.
• Attend required training sessions and complete course documentation.
• Travel to other bases to deliver workshops as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree (relevant field)

3 years equivalent work/military experience in Training, Education, Career Counseling, or Human Resources

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Dynamic, energetic training style

Ability to travel up to 50% to other bases
