Job summary

The AFX Group in San Antonio, TX is hiring a Benefits Advisor for a full-time onsite position at JBSA Fort Sam Houston. You will deliver workshops and one-on-one engagements with separating and retiring military personnel and spouses to help them make informed decisions about VA benefits.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years in training or related fields, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

3 years equivalent work/military experience in Training, Education, Career Counseling, or Human Resources.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may substitute for work/military experience.
Experience delivering workshops to military audiences preferred.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Ability to engage adults using interactive training methods.
Ability to travel up to 50% to other bases.
Ability to read applications and government forms.
Must pass a personal background check.

Responsibilities

Deliver one-hour and one-day briefings covering education, compensation, pension, vocational rehab, employment, home loan guaranty, insurance, health care and more.
Set up briefing rooms, prepare materials, and secure required electronic equipment.
Conduct individualized discussions to explain benefits and assist with applications.
Refer service members to contacts and assist connections to services.
Attend required training sessions and complete workshop documentation.
Travel to other bases up to 50% if needed.
