Job summary

SIU Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and clerical duties in the Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care Facilities Outreach Clinics, on site only. Responsibilities include direct patient care, triage, and coordinating with the care team to ensure efficient clinic flow.

You will obtain vitals, assist with procedures, manage testing (EKG, urinalysis), and handle insurance pre-certifications and scheduling. Strong communication, confidentiality, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Current/valid medical assistant certification by an approved certifying board.
• Ability to deal with different personality types under stress while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patient for exam by obtaining vital signs, reason for visit, medication list, and allergies.
• Performs patient testing, such as EKG, pulse oximetry, accucheck, and urinalysis.
• Assists nurse or physician with patient procedures as directed.
• Clerical tasks including insurance pre-certifications/referrals, scheduling, and entering orders into the EHR.
