Job summary

Akron Children's in Cleveland, OH is hiring a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support under the supervision of a Provider or licensed Nurse. The role emphasizes accurate data collection, patient prep, vital signs, and teamwork across care teams.

Candidates should have a Medical Assistant program completion, high school diploma or equivalent, and BLS certification; prior EPIC/Microsoft Office experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program, EMT, or Paramedic Program required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination; records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by Providers.
• Collects data contributing to assessment and discharge plans under supervision of the Licensed Nurse.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates findings to Providers/Licensed Nurse using proper documentation.
• Accurate documentation within EPIC system.
• Performs front-desk tasks such as scheduling, co-pays, and patient tracking as needed.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties (e.g., POCT, hearing/vision screenings).
• Handles routine office tasks such as faxing, copying, and filing.
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms; maintains patient relationships.
• Adheres to safety policies to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Other duties as assigned.
