Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.

The role involves preparing patients for exams, recording vitals, phlebotomy when needed, data collection for assessments and discharge planning, and maintaining accurate EPIC documentation. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and basic MS Office skills are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• No prior years of experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination; takes vitals and performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Collects data contributing to patient assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens as per policy.
• Documents care and patient findings in EPIC system.
• Schedules appointments, prep for visits, and collects co-payments.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties and general office tasks.
• Maintains examination rooms and supplies.
• Develops positive relationships with patients and families.
• Follows safety policies to ensure a safe care environment.
