Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) in Rockport, IN is seeking a Director of Major Projects to lead the execution of a multi-billion generation program. You will oversee safety, schedule, cost, and stakeholder alignment on site, reporting to Generation leadership.

The role requires a PMP, a related bachelor’s degree, 10+ years of leadership in large-scale projects, and strong contracting and portfolio-management skills. Expect travel and close collaboration with EPCs, regulators, and utilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, project management, accounting, finance, or related field.
• PMP certification is required.
• 10+ years of qualified experience in major construction projects, project management, portfolio management, and related areas.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Own overall project execution including directing, guiding, and overseeing project management functions to successfully complete assigned project.
• Implement and oversee project safety program, monitor performance and address issues to achieve Zero Harm.
• Report on project strategy and team needs to Generation Executive leadership with solutions for siting, regulatory, procurement, engineering, and budgetary requirements.
• Establish project commercial contracting strategy and negotiate project contractor, EPC, and engineering agreements.
• Drive integrated schedule across all workstreams and direct alignment with resource management.
• Maintain oversight of program budget and contingency; manage execution to meet budget targets.
• Identify and manage executive risk register; develop solutions to mitigate project risks.
• Lead project change management and resolve disputes before escalation.
• Build and mentor a cohesive project leadership team; liaise with utilities, regulators, landowners, and contractors.
• Ensure readiness for regulatory filings and successful hearings leading to approvals.
