Job summary

NorthStar Fire Protection is seeking an Alarm Design Lead to head a team of design professionals on large-scale fire alarm projects. You will ensure schedules, codes, and design standards are met, supervising Fire Alarm and VESDA 2D/3D/BIM design teams.

Communicate with clients, project managers, and the design team to maintain quality and compliance. The role emphasizes on-site leadership, coordination with project stakeholders, and rigorous review of deliverables, with a strong focus on safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years in commercial fire and life safety in a leadership role.
• Experience designing Edwards and VESDA systems with Revit.
• Knowledge of NFPA/IFC/IBC/ADA/UL/NEC codes and reading drawings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam.
• Strong analytical, detail-oriented, scheduling abilities.
• NICET IV, Autodesk, BIM certifications preferred.
• Regular and reliable attendance; ability to work extended hours.

Responsibilities

• 100% on-site position leading design functions.
• Oversee on-site and remote working environments for fire alarm and VESDA design.
• Oversee all design related RFIs for the project.
• Validate scope matches the contract and redline changes as needed.
• Report daily constraints and productivity using standard formats and portals.
• Evaluate and approve client deliverables such as submittals and shop drawings.
• Attend weekly LSS discipline workgroup meetings with GCs.
• Assist in schedule management and ensure the design team maintains it.
• Manage budget and provide reports as required.
• Coordinate with management for lookahead planning and execution.
• Report scheduling delays, personnel issues, safety concerns to supervisor.
• Report on-site manpower to Daily Diary process manager.
• Ensure design equipment, vehicles, and tools are safe and maintained.
• Review all design employees per policy.
• Ensure work is performed in a safe manner; fulfill other duties as needed.
