Job summary

City of Garland is looking for an entry-level Meter Reader to record electric and water usage. This 100% onsite role runs Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm, with starting pay at $15 per hour. You will travel to meter routes, collect readings, and keep precise data records for billing and maintenance.

No prior experience required; on-the-job training is provided. You may assist with radio meter installations and field service orders, with opportunities to train new hires as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; on-the-job training provided.
• Equivalent education/experience acceptable.
• 1 year experience in public utilities (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Record electric and water meter readings daily.
• Operate vehicles to travel to meter reading routes.
• Maintain accurate records of readings and data collected.
• Operate computers for drive-by meter data collection.
• Communicate repairs, leaks, service problems to dispatchers.
• Assist with installation/repair of radio meters.
• Assist with field service orders.
• May train new hires on meter reading and equipment usage.
• Other duties as assigned.
