Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking a Water Meter Technician I to perform entry level testing, maintenance and repair of water meters for the Dallas Water Utility. You will help ensure meters are fully functional and accurately metering the system.

Responsibilities include evaluating meters citywide, performing repairs or adjustments, exchanging meters, driving to job sites, and completing paperwork. Candidates need a high school diploma or GED and may require a Class D Water License within probation.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of meter reading and repair.
• Knowledge of water utility operations and activities.
• Knowledge of mechanical and technical tools and equipment for making repairs.
• Ability to read meters and determine issues.
• Ability to perform technical work to maintain, repair, and adjust water meters.
• Ability to safely operate, drive, and navigate City vehicles around a designated area.
• Ability to create and draft accurate and professional reports.
• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

A Day in the Life of a Water Meter Technician!!!

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in one (1) or more of the following:

• General mechanical areas (e.g., automotive/vehicle, small-engine, electrical OR HVAC, etc.)
• General construction (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, concrete OR welding, etc.)
• General maintenance (e.g., building OR mechanical, etc.)
• Meter reading (any utilities)

Equivalences

• A current Class "D" Water or Wastewater License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSES And/or CERTIFICATION

• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Must obtain a Class D Water License from the TCEQ within probationary period.
• May be required to obtain a Confined Space Entry certification from the TCEQ during probationary period depending on assignment.

Other Requirements

• Availability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must pass the background investigation and drug test.

Salary Range

• $44,720.00 - $44,720.00
• The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
