Job summary

The City of Rowlett, TX is seeking a Water Meter Reader to support the meter reading program and water service operations. Under supervision, you will read meters, locate and uncover meters, disconnect/reconnect service, and assist in maintenance of the meter system.

You will perform diagnostics, maintain reports, and coordinate with crews. Must live within 30 minutes of City Hall and be able to lift up to 75 pounds in outdoor conditions year-round.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required; water meter experience preferred.
• Must reside within 30-minute response from City Hall.
• Valid Class D water distribution license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Ability to lift 50–75 pounds and perform outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters for billing and participate in repairs.
• Locate, uncover, disconnect/reconnect meters and handle service changes.
• Maintain meter and radio read systems; fix leaks and mark locations.
• Run diagnostics on meters/electronics; manage warranty parts.
• Prepare weekly/monthly/yearly reports; meet goals.
• Attend to back-up call and maintain professional relations.
