Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol seeks a Field Engineer for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard project in Portsmouth, VA. The mid-level position supports on-site engineering for a major Dry Dock 3 modernization for US Navy construction through 2030.

Qualified candidates will have civil/structural/construction engineering experience, a PE license, and willingness to work five days on-site with some days in the Norfolk office. Strong communication and coordination skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related; concentration in Civil or Structural preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of structural/civil engineering design or construction experience.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Availability to commence employment in December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a field project engineer on-site in Portsmouth, VA five days per week.
• Assist the designer of record in providing technical solutions and communication.
• Attend coordination and safety meetings on behalf of the DOR.
• Visit construction sites to monitor progress and perform QA.
• Review submittals and RFIs; coordinate with stakeholders for timely completion.
• Provide digital field consultation reports for each visit.
• Perform other related engineering duties as needed.
