Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol, a leading waterfront infrastructure advisor, seeks a Mid-Level Field Engineer for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard project in Portsmouth, VA. The role supports on-site design post-construction and QA for a major Dry Dock 3 modernization slated through 2030.

The hire will work five days on site with DOR coordination, review submittals, document field observations, and travel as needed. Requires Civil/Structural background, PE license, and availability December 2026.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; concentration in Civil or Structural preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of structural/civil design or construction experience.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Availability to commence employment in December 2026.
• Field responsibilities on-site five days per week (Portsmouth, VA) with 7am–5pm hours; travel to other locations may be required.
• Driver's license; company vehicle provided; background checks and security clearances may be required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a field project engineer on-site five days per week in Portsmouth, VA.
• Assist the designer of record (DOR) with technical solutions and communications.
• Attend coordination and safety meetings.
• Visit construction sites to monitor progress and perform QA.
• Review submittals and RFIs; coordinate with stakeholders for timely completion.
• Provide digital field consultation reports.
• Perform other related engineering duties.
