Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Field Engineer for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard project in Portsmouth, VA. The mid-level role focuses on on-site civil/structural engineering, providing consultation and solutions for a major Navy construction effort through 2030.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in structural/civil design or construction, a PE license, and be available to start December 2026. A company vehicle is provided and field work is primary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years structural/civil design or construction experience.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Availability to commence employment in December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Serve as field project engineer on site 5 days/week (Portsmouth, VA).
• Assist the designer of record (DOR) with technical solutions and stakeholder communication.
• Attend coordination and safety meetings; represent the DOR as needed.
• Visit construction sites to monitor progress and perform QA to ensure conformance.
• Review submittals and RFIs; coordinate with stakeholders for timely completion.
• Provide a digital field consultation report after each visit.
