Job summary

Nusano, a physics-focused company, seeks a Controls Software Engineer to own end-to-end controls software for scientific and industrial systems at its West Valley City facility. You will design, develop, validate, and support PLC, HMI/SCADA, networking, and related controls software while mentoring junior engineers.

You will troubleshoot interfaces, apply safety practices, and contribute to standards and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field.
• Experience developing controls software in industrial/scientific environments.
• Proficiency with IEC 61131-3 languages (Structured Text/Ladder Logic).
• Experience creating or maintaining HMI/SCADA software with UI/UX best practices.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and P&ID drawings.
• Networking fundamentals and distributed controls knowledge.
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs and control systems.
• Familiarity with source control (Git).

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, testing, integration of controls software for medium-complexity systems.
• Develop PLC software per specifications and standards.
• Design and maintain HMI/SCADA applications with UX and safety in mind.
• Collaborate with operations, scientists, and engineers to integrate hardware and software.
• Integrate PLC software with server-based control systems (EPICS/SCADA).
• Troubleshoot PLCs, networks, interfaces, and control systems.
• Apply industrial communication protocols and hazard analysis practices.
• Create design docs, test plans, and training materials.
• Mentor junior engineers on tools and practices.
