Job summary

Nusano is hiring a Controls Software Engineer to own controls software end-to-end for medium-complexity distributed systems. You will design, develop, validate, integrate, and support PLC, HMI/SCADA, networking, and related controls software for scientific and industrial systems at Nusano's West Valley City facility.

Responsibilities include developing PLC software, creating HMI/SCADA applications, integrating hardware and software with EPICS or SCADA frameworks, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
• Experience developing controls software in industrial, scientific, or similar environments.
• Proficiency with IEC 61131-3 languages including Structured Text and Ladder Logic.
• Experience creating or maintaining HMI/SCADA software and applying UI/UX best practices.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and P&ID drawings.
• Working knowledge of networking and distributed controls architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, testing, integration, and qualification of controls software for distributed systems.
• Create and modify PLC software per specifications and standards.
• Design, maintain, and improve HMI/SCADA applications with UX and safety in mind.
• Collaborate with operations, physicists, and engineers to integrate hardware and software.
• Integrate PLC software with server-based control systems like EPICS or similar SCADA.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, networks, interfaces, instrumentation, and controls hardware/software.
• Apply industrial networking protocols for system design and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to hazard analyses, safety reviews, and risk mitigation.
• Develop technical design docs, test plans, training materials, and knowledge base content.
• Mentor Associate engineers on tools, coding practices, and troubleshooting.
