Job summary

Empire Homes in Austin, TX is seeking a Staff Accountant to support general ledger, reconciliations, and cost tracking for homebuilding projects. You will partner with construction, purchasing, and operations to provide timely financial information and ensure GAAP compliance.

The role focuses on job costing, cost allocations, and month-end close, with opportunities to contribute to forecasting and profitability analyses in a collaborative, on-site setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience; homebuilding, construction, or real estate preferred.
• Understanding of job costing and construction accounting principles.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform general accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and maintenance of accounting records in GAAP compliance.
• Monitor and account for homebuilding and land development job costs by reviewing invoices and cost reports, reconciling variances, and allocating costs.
• Assist with forecasting, financial analysis, and profitability reporting to support decisions.
• Support compliance, audit, tax, and internal control activities with documentation and policy adherence.
• Partner with Construction, Purchasing, Land Development, and Operations teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
