Job summary

The American Youth Foundation in Michigan seeks a Communications and Media Specialist to craft camp stories, manage family emails, blog posts, and social content. You will work with the Communications Manager and contribute to Founder Sparks.

You’ll be onsite at Miniwanca, live with staff during training and camp sessions, with housing and meals provided. A background in writing and social media, plus First Aid/CPR, is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 with 1 year post-high school experience; some assignments may require 21+.
• First Aid and CPR certification (training available).
• Strong long-form and short-form writing and communication skills.
• Experience blogging and running social media for an organization.
• Familiarity with social media marketing tactics and analytics.
• Excellent time management and ability to multitask.
• Commitment to safety, inclusion, and credible youth programming.

Responsibilities

• Support health, safety, and wellbeing of campers in the community.
• Write and upload blog posts documenting life at camp daily or weekly.
• Draft social media content for all platforms three times weekly or daily as needed.
• Collaborate with the Communications Manager to write and schedule camp family emails/newsletters.
• Write longer-form articles for Founder Sparks, the AYF newsletter.
• Gather content for social media marketing year-round.
• Engage actively in camp activities to foster inclusivity and belonging.
• Mentor and connect with campers; model responsibility and compassion.
• Assist with Main Office or camp offices as needed by coordinators.
• Other duties as assigned.
