Job summary

American Youth Foundation in Shelby, Michigan seeks a Photography Specialist to document daily camp life and support AYF’s year-round marketing needs. You will attend daily programming, curate, lightly edit, upload, and organize photos online, including closing day slideshows, for families and AYF materials.

The role requires 1+ year post-high school experience and 1–3 years of photography/editing work, strong organization, and ability to live onsite during training and camp sessions.

Qualifications

• At least one year of post-high school experience.
• 1–3 years of experience capturing high-quality, action-oriented photography and using photo editing software.
• Highly organized, self-sufficient worker with strong time management skills; consistently meets deadlines and can balance concurrent projects.
• Support the organization’s mission and vision with integrity, dependability, and accountability.
• Interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity.
• Demonstrate passion for serving youth, encouraging campers to explore through play and creating a space where youth feel included and a sense of belonging.
• Fully participate in and be present at camp community activities, including staff training activities.
• Maintain mental, emotional, and social resiliency needed for the job in a fast-paced environment.
• Use self-care practices for maintaining overall wellness.
• Follow AYF staff manual guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

• Document daily life at camp by photographing a wide range of activities, cabin groups, and staff.
• Photograph every camper at least every two days.
• Fulfill a shot list for year-round communications needs with supervisor and Director of Outreach.
• Curate, tag, and upload photos regularly (approx. 200–300 photos daily) to the camp’s photo-sharing platform.
• Collect, organize, and upload photos from off-site or multi-day trips.
• Keep camp cameras charged and available; lend cameras to trip leaders as needed.
• Take camper headshots and cabin photos on Opening Day; order prints for Closing Day distribution.
• Create Closing Day camper slideshows and end-of-season Staff Slideshow.
• Build relationships with campers to foster inclusive, age-appropriate group dynamics.
• Actively participate in camp activities with enthusiasm and model responsible behavior.
• Communicate daily with supervisor and attend staff meetings.
