Job summary

Symbotic in Sutherland, VA is seeking a System Engineer to support the day-to-day reliability, availability, and performance of our automated warehouse systems in a live production environment. This hands-on role focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, and stabilizing electro‑mechanical and robotic systems to ensure safe, continuous system uptime, on-site with the maintenance team.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
1+ year hands-on experience with PLCs (prefer Allen-Bradley) for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
1+ year experience with VFDs and drive-related issues.
Experience with AC/DC motors and motor-driven equipment.
Experience with automated systems like conveyors, lifts, AS/RS, robotics.
Familiarity with SQL, Python, and Linux for diagnostics and log review.
Hands-on experience assembling, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting robotics and electro‑mechanical systems.
Maintenance/automation maintenance or lead maintenance technician background preferred.

Responsibilities

Monitor and maintain the health of automated systems (conveyors, lifts, robotic vehicles, motors, sensors, PLC equipment).
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and automation issues to resolve production impacts.
Diagnose PLCs (Allen-Bradley), VFDs, motors, sensors, and control hardware.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment.
Use system data, alarms, logs, and dashboards to identify fault conditions.
Document maintenance activities in CMMS (e.g., Maximo) and internal tools.
Serve as senior technical escalation during disruptions or downtime events.
Collaborate with on-site maintenance, operations, and technical teams to restore performance.
Provide on-the-job guidance to maintenance technicians and operators.
Support critical onsite technical functions to maintain uptime.
Ensure OSHA, LOTO, electrical safety, and Symbotics safety standards.
