Job summary

Symbotic is hiring a System Engineer to support the day-to-day reliability, availability, and performance of automated warehouse systems in a live production environment. The role is hands-on and on-site, focused on system health and equipment reliability.

You will troubleshoot, maintain, and stabilise complex electro-mechanical systems, document activities in CMMS, and collaborate with maintenance and operations to ensure optimal uptime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience in a relevant field.
• At least 1 year with PLCs (preferably Allen-Bradley) focused on diagnostics.
• At least 1 year with VFDs diagnosing speed/torque issues.
• At least 1 year with AC/DC motors.
• Hands-on with automated systems (conveyors, lifts, robotics).
• Experience with autonomous/semi-autonomous systems (AS/RS, robotics).
• Working knowledge of SQL, Python, and Linux for diagnostics.
• Strong hands-on robotics and electro-mechanical skills.
• Maintenance/lead maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain health of automated systems (conveyors, lifts, robotics).
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and automation issues to resolve downtime.
• Diagnose failures across PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and control hardware.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Use system data and logs to identify fault conditions and recurring issues.
• Document maintenance activities in CMMS (Maximo) and internal tools.
• Serve as senior escalation point during disruptions or downtime.
• Collaborate with on-site maintenance, ops, and technical teams.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians and operators on the floor.
• Step in to support critical on-site functions to maintain uptime.
• Ensure OSHA/LOTO/electrical safety compliance.
