Job summary

Fort Wayne Community School District seeks an instructional paraprofessional to support special education students throughout the school day in both special education and general classrooms.

You will work one-to-one or in small groups, implement IEP-based strategies, assist with communication tools and daily activities, reinforce academic concepts, and maintain student dignity and safety while collaborating with licensed staff.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED; experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Strong tutorial, office computer skills and oral/written communication required.
• Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents and to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous or designated one-to-one support to the assigned student throughout the school day.
• Assist the student with accessing instruction, classroom activities and school routines.
• Modify or adapt materials under supervision of licensed staff.
• Reinforce academic concepts and support communication across settings.
• Implement behavioral supports and de-escalation strategies as directed.
• Maintain student privacy and document progress; report safety concerns.
• Assist with transitions, classroom movement and personal care activities when needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support IEP goals.
