Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant to support teachers and students in special education or general classrooms. You will assist with instructional clerical tasks, student management, and daily life activities for students with special needs, in line with school schedules.

This on-site role offers opportunities to work collaboratively with educators, parents, and students, contributing to a positive learning environment and student success within the district.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: Previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Strong tutorial skills and ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents.
• Strong desire to see young people succeed, positive attitude, ability to complete tasks independently.
• Strong office computer, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles, basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings.
• Participation in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional clerical tasks, student management, and daily life activities for special education students.
• Support students in both special education and general classrooms as needed.
• Help maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment and monitor student wellbeing.
