Job summary

Stockton Unified School District in Stockton, CA is seeking a dedicated one-on-one assistant to support a severely handicapped student aged 3 to 22. The role involves assisting with mobility, instruction, feeding, personal care, and supervision under the teacher's guidance.

You will work closely with certificated staff to implement individualized plans, monitor progress, maintain records, and help create a supportive classroom environment. The position offers health benefits and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Education, training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and at least one year experience working with handicapped students.

Responsibilities

• Assist student to and from buses and classes.
• Teach independent mobility.
• Assist instructional personnel in development and implementation of individual education plans.
• Monitor and supervise student during academic and recreational activities.
• Tutor student to reinforce learning experiences.
• Supervise student during study, lunch and play periods.
• Assist in developing and maintaining social behavior.
• Assist student to become self-reliant.
• Maintain daily performance records.
• Operate audio-visual equipment and educational machines.
• May prepare instructional materials.
• Assist in serving meals.
• Teach self-feeding and grooming skills.
• Assist with toileting and dressing tasks.
• Change diapers and handle hygiene.
• May lift and move handicapped student.
• Keep work area attractive.
