Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Washington state is hiring a paraeducator (Education Support Professional). The role supports a certificated teacher with students who have disabilities, providing instructional support and personal care as needed.

The position requires a state paraeducator certificate or equivalent credentials and involves classroom supervision and data recording. Expected start is as soon as possible with a FTE of 0.875 (7.5 hours on campus).

Qualifications

• Complete state-m mandated General Paraeducator Certificate
• 72 college credits or passing Para Pro Test required
• AA degree qualifies for lower/upper pay bands
• BA or higher degree increases pay tier
• Staff must complete district training within specified timelines

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students in small groups or one-on-one per teacher guidance
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care as needed
• Supervise recess, lunch and bus routines
• Record student progress and maintain data for IEP goals
• Assist with adapting materials and activities for students with disabilities
• Support teacher in administering tests and using adaptive teaching tools
• Participate in staff meetings and coordinate with therapy staff
• Prepare classroom materials and help with field trips and work placements
• Provide consistent, reliable attendance and follow district policies
• Assist with behavior management and conflict resolution
• Coordinate computer activities and troubleshoot equipment
• Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with staff and students
