Job summary

The City Research Scientist role at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene supports the Antimicrobial Resistance Unit and One Health initiatives in NYC. You will analyze antimicrobial resistance and use data to inform surveillance, reporting, and policy actions across human and animal health sectors.

The position requires advanced degrees and experience in public health, with duties spanning data integration, WGS analytics, and stakeholder presentations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required for Assignment Level I
• Doctorate with 1 year supervisory/administrative/research experience for Level II
• Residency in NYC within 90 days of appointment

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial use data in humans and animals
• Support IPC and AS for veterinary professionals with new resources
• Provide analytics for whole genome sequencing (WGS) initiatives across teams
• Coordinate data transmission of WGS data with epidemiology, laboratory, informatics, and IT
• Perform CRO/MRSA surveillance and assist data cleaning, QA, and investigations
• Support ARU projects and data needs including routine data management
• Present results to internal and external stakeholders
