Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking an Oncology Scheduling Coordinator 1 for the Cancer Institute Access Operations to ensure timely access to care. The role handles scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and prior authorization in collaboration with clinical teams.

Under supervision, you will support complex access workflows, coach peers, and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with CMS, JCAHO, and HIPAA regulations, while delivering compassionate patient service.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in business or related field.
• Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in patient access, patient registration, front or back-end revenue cycle operations. Experience in a healthcare call center environment may be accepted as a substitute.
• An equivalent combination of education, certification and realized competencies may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Perform core functions of the Patient Access Specialist with expanded responsibility for complex and specialized services.
• Independently schedule advanced procedures and treatments, ensuring clinical readiness and payer requirements are met.
• Proctor, coach, and support peers by answering questions and assisting with onboarding or cross-training.
• Identify and resolve complex access, registration, and coverage issues, escalating appropriately when necessary.
• Communicate scheduling details, preparation instructions, and financial expectations with patients.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, providers, and external partners to resolve access, coverage, and scheduling issues.
• Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to access workflows, patient experience and operational efficiency.
