Job summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Moffitt Cancer Center will provide compassionate care in the medical observation unit for oncology patients requiring short-term hospitalization, ongoing assessment, symptom management, and education. The shift pattern is three 12-hour shifts with some weekends.

You will collaborate with physicians, APNs, pharmacy, case management, social work, nutrition, and the interdisciplinary team, documenting thoroughly while upholding quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• RN with Bachelor of Science in Nursing; or an ADN with 1 year of relevant experience.
• Current RN licensure in Florida or multi-state privilege with FL as primary state.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing monitoring of patients requiring observation and short-term medical management.
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, escalating care as appropriate.
• Manage common oncology-related complications including pain, nausea/vomiting, dehydration, fever, electrolyte imbalances, anemia, neutropenia, and treatment-related side effects.
• Educate patients and caregivers on symptom management, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, case management, social work, nutrition, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain accurate documentation while adhering to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Foster a culture of compassion, teamwork, and excellence while providing high-quality, patient centered care.
