Job summary

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join our clinical team. This is a Monday–Friday position with no weekends or major holidays, offering a strong work-life balance.

The role involves phlebotomy, documentation, specimen handling, and coordination with reference labs in a busy oncology setting. A High School Diploma and one year of phlebotomy experience are required; ASCP or BLS certification is preferred. Competitive benefits are included.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• One year of phlebotomy experience.
• ASCP or other approved professional association certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.
• Maintains proper documentation per QA program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and ensures viability of supplies before use.
• Sends specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in house.
• Processes incoming orders for lab testing.
• Processes in-house and incoming reports.
• Updates and files daily paperwork, lab logs and maintenance logs.
• Identifies and bands patients for blood products transfusion and ensures proper labeling.
• Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed and maintains workspace.
• Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines and records lot numbers of controls and reagents.
• Complies with OSHA and universal precautions; handles hazardous materials safely.
• Maintains clean working environment and restocks phlebotomy and lab area.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
• Travel to outside clinics as needed or requested.
• Performs other duties as requested.
