Job summary

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist for a Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends or major holidays, based in Bloomington, IL. The role includes phlebotomy, specimen handling, and adherence to QA, CLIA, and OSHA standards.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma and 1 year phlebotomy experience; ASCP or equivalent certification and BLS/CPR are preferred. Benefits include comprehensive health plans, 401(k), and disability coverage.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma; at least 1 year phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• ASCP or similar certification is preferred; BLS/CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered; ensures consent (ABN) per limited coverage tests.
• Maintains documentation per QA program; accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and ensures viability of supplies for patient collection.
• Sends specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house.
• Processes incoming orders and in-house/in-coming reports.
• Updates and files daily paperwork, lab logs and maintenance logs.
• Identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion; ensures properly labeled specimens.
• Operates designated lab equipment and maintains equipment/workspace.
• Performs waived lab testing under CLIA; records lot numbers of controls/reagents.
• Complies with regulatory standards and OSHA; follows universal precautions.
• Disposes of hazardous materials.
• Maintains a clean work environment and restocks phlebotomy and lab areas.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
• Travel to outside clinics as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education

High School Diploma
