Job summary

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join our clinical team. This role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends or major holidays, promoting strong work-life balance.

The position includes phlebotomy duties, patient specimen collection, and extensive documentation to support quality care. Successful candidates will have a high school diploma, at least one year of phlebotomy experience, and relevant certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• One year of phlebotomy experience.
• ASCP or other approved professional association certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and collects specimens from patients as ordered.
• Maintains documentation, logs, and checklists per QA program.
• Manages inventory and ensures supplies are viable for patient collection.
• Sends specimens to reference labs for tests not done in-house.
• Processes lab orders and in-house reports.
• Updates daily paperwork and maintenance logs.
• Identifies and bands patients for transfusions per policy.
• Operates laboratory equipment as directed.
• Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines and documents controls.
• Adheres to OSHA and universal precautions.
• Maintains a clean work area and restocks as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
• Travels to outside clinics as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.
