Job summary

Banner Health in Scottsdale, Arizona is seeking a Financial Counselor to coordinate, verify and communicate all financial aspects of a patient’s care across the treatment continuum, including insurance, authorizations, registration and billing considerations.

You will partner with oncology care teams to assess financial impact, provide counseling to patients and families, and help secure resources and payment arrangements while ensuring a seamless patient experience.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree as a minimum requirement; healthcare administration, social work or finance focus.
• Three years of diversified experience in hospital Patient Registration/Financial Services; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit may be required at hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-registration/registration processes; obtains initial authorizations based on care plan; collects insurance benefit information.
• Verifies insurance coverage and approvals; documents into patient records; updates insurance data and changes in treatment plan.
• Provides financial counseling to patients and families; discusses insurance and billing options; explains policies and resources for payment arrangements.
• Advises uninsured patients on funding options; liaises with community resources to maximize coverage and minimize patient financial impact.
• Acts as liaison between patient, PFS department and payers to improve accounts receivable performance and service excellence.
• Calculates patient liability; collects deposits and co-payments.
• May provide leadership and training to other financial team members; handles multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
