Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) for the Oncology/SCT unit at the Hyde Park site in Springfield, IL. This part-time night role supports patient care under RN supervision and performs essential tasks to maintain patient comfort and safety.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Illinois HCWR registration as a CNA or nursing student with competency, CPR/BLS, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
• Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of duties.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids.
• Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients.
• Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer.
• Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.
• Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs.
• Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart.
• Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
