Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide technical support in the CHO Laboratory, performing hematology, chemistry and urinalysis testing for clinic patients. You will monitor quality control systems, maintain instruments, and report results through LIS/EMR.

The role requires compliance with HACCP? no—HIPAA and safety policies, and the ability to travel between CHO lab sites if needed. Strong computer skills and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 2 year accredited program in Medical Laboratory Technician training plus MLT (ASCP) within 90 days of hire. Depending on date of training, different continuing education requirements will apply. OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science and two years of Laboratory Technical Assistant training/experience performing standardized laboratory tests in the specialty area(s) in which high complexity testing will be performed; MLT (ASCP) or AMT certification preferred. Depending on date of training, different continuing education requirements will apply.

Responsibilities

  • PERFORMS testing in CHO Lab with accuracy, speed, and efficiency using chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and microscope.
  • Prepares patient samples for testing and determines acceptability of specimens; reports results via LIS, EMR, middleware, computer applications, and phone.
  • Ensures all patient data, internal and send-out testing, is documented in the EMR; notifies providers of critical values.
  • Calibrates and maintains laboratory analyzers; troubleshoots as needed.
  • Performs required computer work using EPIC, Word, Excel, Portal, E-chart; reviews lists.
  • Performs all quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) tasks including daily analyzer controls and proficiency testing; reports issues promptly.
  • Maintains adequate laboratory supplies and a clean work environment.
  • Completes competency training and adheres to HIPAA and safety policies.
