Job summary

Northwest Cancer Centers in Northwest Indiana seeks an entry‑level Laboratory Technologist to perform specimen analysis across chemistry, hematology and immunology, maintain equipment, and ensure QA compliance. You will collect specimens, assist with procedures, and document results for patient charts in a team‑oriented environment.

The role emphasizes adherence to safety and regulatory standards, proficiency testing, and ongoing quality control, with opportunities to contribute to patient care

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in medical technology or laboratory science.
  • Current state license if required. AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
  • Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.
  • Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e. bone marrows in the room).
  • Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
  • Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.
  • Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment and performs instrument maintenance.
  • Adheres to quality control policies and documents QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.
  • Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential.
  • Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment.
  • Records results and processes specimens for send-out testing.
  • Identifies problems affecting test performance and documents corrective actions.
  • Maintains documentation as described by QA, including logs and equipment records.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and prepares reagents and stains.
  • Charts patient results and ensures timely entry into the charting system.
