Job summary

Oncology Hematology Associates is seeking a Patient Financial Counselor to act as the primary advocate for patients navigating insurance coverage and financial assistance for cancer care. You will review coverage, estimate patient financial responsibility, coordinate prior authorizations, and verify benefits to support timely access to treatment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's Degree or higher in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred.
• Minimum two years experience in healthcare, preferably in healthcare financial counseling, patient access, or medical billing.
• Demonstrated knowledge verifying pre-certification and/or prior authorization with medical insurance.
• Experience with patient assistance programs and financial aid resources preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary patient advocate for financial navigation and counseling.
• Review patient insurance coverage and establish financial responsibility estimates.
• Coordinate prior authorizations and benefit verification for access to treatment.
• Assist patients with understanding insurance benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and available financial assistance.
• Maintain up-to-date patient benefits in EMR and coordinate with care teams.
• Communicate with providers, nursing staff, UM, and coworkers about fiscal responsibility.
